RØDE Microphones is looking for a passionate, talented and dedicated Head of Communications to manage the global communications functions of the Freedman Group as follows:

  • Develop and deliver a PR and comms strategy to deliver media coverage to support the Group’s strategic goals
  • Manage the internal comms program to positively grow company culture
  • Be an active member of the Marketing leadership team, helping to develop and shape the overall marketing approach for the brand
  • Manage the personal PR of RØDE founder, Peter Freedman AM, including speechwriting, coordinating media appearances and actively building his profile according to his direction.

The key responsibilities for this role will include

  • Delivering an overall communications strategy to support the Group’s objectives, including PR, media relations, eDM and other customer marketing campaigns
  • To write and proofread all materials, including press releases, company reports, product brochures, web copy and eDMs
  • To manage a small team of communications professionals, and to develop their capability and skills
  • To manage the PR and media requirements of Peter Freedman AM with sensitivity and tact
  • To develop and deliver the internal cultural program, including corporate communications, gym/ fitness program promotion and on-campus events
  • To assist the HR manager in communication about working at RØDE in the context of recruitment
  • To manage both the Group’s and Mr Freedman’s advocacy and philanthropic activities to deliver community engagement and positive social outcomes

To be successful you will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism or PR; proven experience is essential
  • Hands-on ability to craft and manage communications, including writing and word-crafting – note RØDE uses external agencies sparingly, and there is an expectation that all communications are created in-house
  • Ability to build rapport with people, and experience managing high-profile individuals
  • Critical thinking skills, able to rapidly sift through large volumes of information and present cogent summaries and recommendations
  • Media handling and press release management and follow-up
  • Event planning and management
  • Can lead a team and also contribute to a senior management team as an active member
  • Strategic focus; able to show how PR and comms will enhance company objectives and then build a concrete plan to achieve those strategic objectives
  • Very high-level presentation skills; about to communicate effectively in settings ranging from small meetings with high profile individuals through to large conferences
