The first thing we noticed was the clear directionality of the broad X/Y stereo pickup pattern—perfect for high quality recording of anything from song ideas to full performances.

When tested [iXY] with louder sounds - trains and traffic approaching and receding - it was pleasing to find that there was no significant drop in centre image due to sound hitting both capsules off-axis - the unpleasant 'pinched' centre image that some X-Y stereo mics suffer from.

This is a beautifully designed, easy to use piece of Australian audio engineering which faithfully captures ambient atmospheres. It would be especially useful in natural settings and at musical and sporting venues.

This is without question the most important and useful tool in my audio kit, and I thank you for allowing me the freedom to spend time with my family as the days of having to dash into the booth at Seven or to rock into one of the affiliates studios when on holidays are gone. Thank God!

Just purchased a pair of [NTG-1] for choir mics... They are much hotter than the Sennheiser small condensers they replaced, with a much warmer sound. They also have a much better bass response. They have eliminated the feedback problem we were having, and we can now afford to place them properly.
