RØDE Rec LE Reviews
RØDE Rec LE Reviews

As RØDE Rec LE is free and RØDE Rec only costs £3.99, there’s little point in using anything else. These both allow adjustment of the mic gain and of headphone monitor level, though the full version also offers a parametric EQ, compressor, expander, multiple file-format export facilities supporting Dropbox and Soundcloud, a wider choice of sampling rates, and audio editing facilities such as cropping and looping.

It also boasts 15 iZotope input processing presets, metadata capability and variable playback speeds, so at slightly more than the cost of a pint it’s probably worth having! For straightforward recording, though, the LE version works just fine and saves each recording as a separate file.

RØDE Rec LE Support
  • When I connect headphones to my iOS device the RØDE Rec microphone changes - why is that?+
    • Apple iOS automatically takes the last connected device as the recording input, so if you are using headphones to monitor your RØDE Rec recording please ensure you connect them before connecting your recording device, or alternatively remember to select your preferred microphone after connecting the headphones.

  • I have removed my recordings but the app is still using a lot of data on my device. How can I clear the space?+
    • If you export any files using iTunes File Sharing or Web Browser Access they will remain in the device's iOS public directory even if you delete the original recording in RØDE Rec or RØDE Rec LE. This can result in the app using more data than expected.

Removing the public files is a simple process

      1. Attach the device to a computer running iTunes
      2. Launch iTunes
      3. Select the device in iTunes and open it's Apps tab
      4. Select the RØDE Rec or RØDE Rec LE application - The public files will be displayed
      5. Select the recordings you would like to delete and tap the deletekey on your keyboard to remove them and clear the space on your device.
  • How do I export my recording to my computer from RØDE Rec?+
    • RØDE Rec offers a number of convenient export options including SoundCloud, DropBox, FTP, email and web browser, but possibly the most common method is be an export direct to computer via a wired connection. In RØDE Rec (and RØDE Rec LE) this is known as 'iTunes File Sharing' as it relies on Apple's iTunes program to retrieve the files from your device.

To download your files, just follow these easy steps:

      1. View the recording and click on the 'share' button in the bottom right corner
      2. Tap 'iTunes File Sharing'
      3. Tap 'Create Audio File'
      4. Now you are able to select your preferred audio format. RØDE Rec LE will have limited options but the full version gives you eight popular codecs to choose from. Note that you can select multiple formats also.
      5. Tap 'Create Audio File'
      6. Now connect your phone to your computer if you haven't already done so.
      7. Open iTunes and Select your device
      8. Click on the 'Apps' tab at the top of the screen and then select RØDE Rec (or RØDE Rec LE) from the 'File Sharing' section.

      9. Select the file you wish to transfer and click 'save as' to save the file to your computer

Currently RØDE Rec does not support batch exporting of files, but we are working very hard to incorporate this feature.

  • Will airplay or bluetooth audio function with RØDE Rec/RØDE Rec LE?+
    • Unfortunately due to issues with multiple sampling rates, both RØDE Rec and RØDE Rec LE are currently unable to support airplay or bluetooth output. We are hoping that future versions of iOS might allow this functionality.

  • Why is playthrough disabled at 96kHz?+
    • Due to the processing power required at 24-bit/96kHz, RØDE Rec is unable to offer playthrough to headphones at this resolution with latency acceptable to professional applications.

Playthrough is available at 24-bit/48kHz and all resolutions below however.
