Artists of Venice is a micro-documentary about the artists who work on and sell their art every day at the beach in Venice Beach, California. The artists who reside on the boardwalk vary in style, background, and motivation while sharing the same appreciation for Venice as an art studio and home base.

This shoot was a lot of fun! We went to Venice Beach two days in a row, hoping to find willing participants. The first artist we asked for an interview was David Alexander English who is the main voice in this documentary. His willing spirit right off the bat set a great tone for the rest of production. We shot the film on two cameras at once: Nikon D750 and Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4k. The audio was, of course, picked up by RØDE microphones. The RØDE products used in this production were the: Smartlav+ and Videomic Pro. The Smartlav microphones are INSANELY good quality (and they connected straight to our phone!!!). Once we had the Smartlav+ mics attached to our subjects, we asked them about their life, career, and artwork prompting them to speak passionately about life as an Artist of Venice.
