MEET THE INTERNS

2018 was the inaugural year of Master Your Craft, and we were blown away by the entries - so much so that we found it impossible to pick just one winner. In the end we chose three. Mariona, Conrad, and Rohan – hailing from Spain, Germany and the USA respectively – are three super-talented young filmmakers, and for last year have become an integral part of the RØDE family. Since joining the team they’ve worked, surfed, joined bands, chased kangaroos, been mentored, and mastered their craft, and you could do the same. Get to know them below, check out their winning entries, and get inspired.

MARIONA

Hailing from Barcelona, Mariona had been studying and working in Brisbane for three years when she stumbled across the competition. She didn’t end up entering until the very last minute, but a rush job it most definitely was not. Her film reflected her love for the work of Wes Anderson, Emmanuel Lubezk, Christopher Nolan and J.A Bayona, as well as her incredible editing skills and attention to detail (which we now know may be borderline OCD – not a bad thing).

Do it! You won’t regret moving to Australia – unless you try Vegemite, get stuck in a rip in the surf, or get bitten by one of the numerous deadly animals. Just kidding you’re going to be fine. I’ve survived for 4 years – touch wood.

Don’t be afraid to enter. Just do it. Create something unexpected, something attention-grabbing. Good luck!

CONRAD

CONRAD

Before flying to Sydney from his hometown of Potsdam on the outskirts of Berlin, Conrad’s career was off to a cracking start, with a pilot for a TV series and some work on German sports television already under his belt. He was studying Communications at the University of Arts in Berlin before dropping everything to come to Australia. His winning entry was all about the camera effects and editing, skills that he has been honing ever since. He’s also become RØDE’s undisputed drone master, dad joke dispenser, and kangaroo whisperer.

ROHAN

Rohan came to us from a little town called Winthrop in Washington State, USA. Already an award-winning filmmaker in his own right, he was running his own freelance production agency while studying at college before winning the comp and making the move to Sydney. Since he’s been here, he’s continued to hone his craft, immersed himself in the local music scene, and unleashed his inner frustrated actor.

ROHAN

I would tell anyone who is interested in filmmaking to consider entering. You’ll gather experience and some good memories along the way – connecting with fellow creatives never ceases to create unforgettable memories and great stories.
