The RØDE Rec app is currently not available in the Apple App Store. An updated version of the app will be available in the near future.
RØDE Rec combines professional features with an intuitive interface, making it easy to record, edit and publish broadcast-quality audio directly from your iOS device.
Featuring real-time waveforms, a suite of non-linear editing capabilities and powerful EQ and gain controls, RØDE Rec is the only field recorder you'll ever need.

As RØDE Rec LE is free and RØDE Rec only costs £3.99, there’s little point in using anything else. These both allow adjustment of the mic gain and of headphone monitor level, though the full version also offers a parametric EQ, compressor, expander, multiple file-format export facilities supporting Dropbox and Soundcloud, a wider choice of sampling rates, and audio editing facilities such as cropping and looping.
It also boasts 15 iZotope input processing presets, metadata capability and variable playback speeds, so at slightly more than the cost of a pint it’s probably worth having! For straightforward recording, though, the LE version works just fine and saves each recording as a separate file.
Apple iOS automatically takes the last connected device as the recording input, so if you are using headphones to monitor your RØDE Rec recording please ensure you connect them before connecting your recording device, or alternatively remember to select your preferred microphone after connecting the headphones.
If you export any files using iTunes File Sharing or Web Browser Access they will remain in the device's iOS public directory even if you delete the original recording in RØDE Rec or RØDE Rec LE. This can result in the app using more data than expected.
Removing the public files is a simple process
RØDE Rec offers a number of convenient export options including SoundCloud, DropBox, FTP, email and web browser, but possibly the most common method is be an export direct to computer via a wired connection. In RØDE Rec (and RØDE Rec LE) this is known as 'iTunes File Sharing' as it relies on Apple's iTunes program to retrieve the files from your device.
To download your files, just follow these easy steps:
Currently RØDE Rec does not support batch exporting of files, but we are working very hard to incorporate this feature.
Unfortunately due to issues with multiple sampling rates, both RØDE Rec and RØDE Rec LE are currently unable to support airplay or bluetooth output. We are hoping that future versions of iOS might allow this functionality.
Due to the processing power required at 24-bit/96kHz, RØDE Rec is unable to offer playthrough to headphones at this resolution with latency acceptable to professional applications.
Playthrough is available at 24-bit/48kHz and all resolutions below however.
