Deciphering

Andrew Hicks

Robert’s father, Frank, passed away when Rebecca was pregnant with Josh. Josh was Frank’s first grandchild, so he wanted to leave him a message. Robert and Rebecca feel that Josh is ready to see the message his grandfather left him. However, they don’t think he will be interested in watching the video of his grandfather. So, Robert comes up with a clever way to get Josh to watch it, by using things that he knows Josh will be interested in and figure out.

Behind the scenes of Deciphering

The amount of behind the scenes work that went into this movie far surpasses a 3 minute video. Therefore, this video simply explains the gear used to create this film. Here’s a list of the gear:
- Panasonic GH4
- Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8
- Wooden Camera Small Quick Kit
- CowboyStudio Shoulder Support Pad
- Kamerar FF-3 Follow Focus
- RØDE NTG-3 Basic Shotgun Mic Kit from B&H
- Tascam DR-60D Audio Recorder
- Senal SMH-1000 Headphones
- Movie Slate 7 app

The film was shot at my house, in my car, and near a gas station near my house. It took us 2 days to film. I recorded the video and my brother, Matthew, recorded the audio. The film was written, produced, recorded, and edited by me. I also wrote the soundtrack for the movie. I used an M-Audio MIDI keyboard to record all the parts. If you have any questions about any of the behind the scenes, feel free to email me at ahicksvideography@icloud.com.
